Unit E / SHIFTING LANDSCAPES

“To halt the decline of an ecosystem, it is necessary to think like an ecosystem.” —Douglas P. Wheeler, EPA Journal, September-October 1990]

“I am a passenger on the spaceship Earth.”—R. Buckminster Fuller (1895-1983).

Shifting landscapes explores the architecture of landscape, environment and the material of place, with the ambition to generate unique building cultures, distinct local vernaculars and character drawn from site and brief.

This year, Unit E explored the Yorkshire Coastline in the context of “Shifting Landscapes”: the fastest actively eroding coastline in Europe, faced with the forces of rising sea levels, landslides and strong storms, increased due to climate change.
