LIVE BUILD WORKSHOP - BORNEO 2023

In 2023 Oxford Brookes took a group of 15 students to Borneo, to an indigenous village on the edge of the Rainforest, to learn from their vernacular ways of building and design a Pavilion using a mix of Digital Tools and vernacular methods. The result was the butterfly Pavilion, Built over the course of two weeks. For most of the students they had never built anything before, and no-one, including the tutors had any experience building with Bamboo before. The experience was one full of challenges, of learning, and overcoming obstacles. The workshop was conducted in collaboration with UNIMAS University school of architecture, and Mongkos Village in Sarawak.
